3 Signs That Your Window Panes Need Immediate Repair

Ethan Burton

Well-designed windows can significantly transform the interior aesthetics of a home. Some homeowners make their windows the focal point of their living rooms. Therefore, adequate glass maintenance is crucial to maintaining the windows' aesthetic value. However, such support does not mean that the window panes will be damage-proof. It is because window panes are exposed to different weather conditions and human-made actions. The exposure makes window panes susceptible to damage. Therefore, it is vital to inspect your window panes regularly for signs of damage that might worsen if not repaired in time. This article highlights some of the signs that your window panes need immediate repair.

Foggy Glass

If you notice a dark patch starting to appear on your window panes, then it might be time you called a window contractor. If you don't take action, the fogginess will only get worse, and you will have to replace the window which is even more costly. A foggy patch on the window is evidence that the seal between the panes has failed, thereby allowing air in. It leads to condensation between the window panes which will not go away no matter how hard you try to squeeze the air out. Notably, a window contractor will separate the affected window panes, clean out the condensation and reseal them which will prevent extensive damage and expensive repairs down the road.

Hairline Crack

It is easy to ignore a hairline crack on a window pane especially if it is the double-pane type. Unfortunately, you ignore such a simple crack at your peril because a break of any kind on glass is a weak point. If the affected pane gets hit over time, the crack will increase in size and increase the chances of breakage. Therefore, it is vital to contact your window contractor the moment you notice small cracks on your window panes. On the other hand, there are DIY window repair kits that you can use to clean and fill the crack with a glass adhesive. Ultimately, no break is too small to cause significant damage to glass windows.

Chipped Edges

When inspecting window panes for signs of damage, most people do not check the corners thoroughly. It is although chipping on window panes is more likely to occur at the edges. Therefore, carefully check the corners of the pane for signs of chipped glass. If you find one, look around for the chipped piece because more often than not the chipped pieces fall on the window ledge. If you cannot repair the chip, then call a glass repair service. The repair contractor will create a chipped piece that matches the damaged area and gives your window a clean look.
